Tasks
- Lead of the working group on “Quantitative Genetics and Breeding Methodology of Potatoes” (PQG), jointly established by IPK and JKI
Objectives:
- Optimization of the use of genetic resources to increase genetic gain
- Identification and characterization of positive alleles and allele combinations in potato genetic resources, with the aim of accumulating these in the breeding process
To achieve these goals, we pursue various approaches:
- Quantitative Genetic Analysis of Experimental Datasets
- Fitting linear mixed models to experimental datasets from potato research to estimate quantitative genetic parameters
- Evaluating the prediction accuracy of new predictors, both in comparison to and in conjunction with molecular genetic predictors and kinship data
- Computer-Assisted Simulations and Modeling
- Optimizing potato breeding programs through model calculations and computer simulations
- Developing new models for genomic prediction in potatoes with the aim of increasing prediction accuracy
- Quantitative Genetic Theory that takes into account the specificity of polyploid species

- Potato Predict
