Overall objective of the project

In a long-term field trial, the two strategies “situation-based” and “reduction” are compared under the influence of tillage (turning or non-turning). The trial comprises a 6-field crop rotation. In the “situation-based” strategy, plant protection is carried out according to the principles of integrated plant protection, taking into account damage thresholds and forecast models. The “reduction” strategy focuses primarily on mechanical weed control. This is highly relevant due to the elimination of herbicide active ingredients and the increase in herbicide resistance. Extensive surveys are conducted on the occurrence of pests (fungal and animal pests as well as weeds). Based on this, both strategies use current warning service reports, control thresholds, forecast models, and expert systems to make control decisions. In addition to plant protection intensity (BI), yields and economic indicators are also calculated to evaluate the two strategies. The findings obtained from the trial can also be used in organic farming, with adjustments required where necessary.
