The aim of the project is to enhance the understanding of the biosynthesis of volatile compounds in Origanum majorana while simultaneously collecting material for further optimization. A collection of various marjoram accessions will be assembled and subsequently analyzed for their volatile compounds. Based on the volatile profiles, interesting accessions will be identified, and the relevant enzymes will be analyzed using a proteomic approach. This will allow for the precise identification of genetic regions without the need for prior whole-genome sequencing or GBS analysis. The profiling of volatile compounds will be conducted under standard conditions as well as under different light spectra and water availability (drought stress).
