Overall objective of the project

The project Continued Community Network for practices in Plant Virology (VIRNET2) aims to encourage exchange of knowledge and collaboration between researchers working in plant virology. The main objective is organising one and possibly two in-person meetings between Euphresco project partners and potentially other researchers. Additionally two online meetings shall be organised. Combining the meetings with other plant virology meetings allows researchers to share their results with a broader audience. New research ideas can be pitched and further discussed between potential participants to prepare new collaborations. The consortium will provide ideas to the Euphresco coordinator on topics that could be discussed during EPPO/Euphresco scientific colloquia. The EPPO/Euphresco scientific colloquia are events organised to bring together scientists and policy makers and discuss recent scientific topics that have an impact on policy. VIRNET2 is following on from previous meetings organised in spring 2022 and summer 2023 as part of the first edition of VIRNET (2019-I-321). Topics and challenges raised through these previous discussions will be further explored focussing on aspects of the use of High-Throughput Sequencing (HTS) in research and diagnostics including determining biological characteristics of new discoveries, the minimum supporting evidence for reporting and their impacts on regulation.Starting with participants of Euphresco projects, the community network aims to extend to other plant virologists working in plant-health.
