Overall objective of the project

Knowledge of forest diseases and the diagnosis and biology of their pathogens is important to secure forest ecosystem services and to avoid forest damage. Data collections in the forest, microbiological and molecular biological laboratory work, infection experiments and literature research are carried out. Based on the knowledge generated, environmentally friendly management strategies to avoid forest diseases can be developed within the framework of integrated plant protection. The topic of this research is the development of trustable diagnosis methods for cryptic (e.g. Phytophthora species) or difficult to allocable tree pathogens like tree rooting fungi. Another example is the ash dieback fungus Hymenoscyphus albidus with the anamorph form Chalara fraxinea which causes massive damages on ash.
