Major causes of damage in forests are predominantly thermophilic species that are favoured by climate change. In the case of insects, these include various species of bark beetles, butterflies and leaf wasps. As the vitality of tree species decreases as a result of drought and heat stress, the intensity of infestation by harmful forest insects increases. In view of this, knowledge-based solutions are needed for risk management in forest protection. Various forest insects are kept in breeding for open research questions on biology or for orientating laboratory and field trials, including direct forest protection methods.
