The project aims to adress the existing weak points of the production system of organic apple growing and to develop combination strategies that improve the stability of yields, reduce the use of plant protection products and enhance the insect biodiversity in the orchards. It is intended to reduce the applications with codling moth granulovirus (CpGV) in late summer and to test new isolates and virus types. In strong collaboration with the codling moth strategy a sustainable strategy to reduce fungicide application with main focus on copper applications in late summer shall be developed. As part of a combination strategy to control the woolly apple aphid, vegetation management measures to enhance early occurring ladybirds and hoverflies shall be elaborated. The potential of vegetation management to reduce fruit damage by pentatomids in Saxony will be investigated.
