The directive no. 2009/128 / EG of 21 October 2009 establishing a action framework of community to achieve the sustainable use of pesticides has predetermined the Member States that they ensure that the spraying by aircraft is only allowed for limited exceptions. The German legislator has therefore laid down in § 18 of the Plant Protection Act of 06.02.2012; that a permit only for controlling harmful organisms is allowed (a) in wine-growing on the steep slopes and (b) in the crown area of forests. The Institute examines the existence of legal requirements and explains his conduct in relation to the BVL. In the field of viticulture, the Institute coordinates the activities.
